Since 28 April 2025, two-step verification (2SV) in myIR has been compulsory for tax agents, intermediaries and some of your clients.
From 30 June 2025, 2SV in myIR became compulsory for all GST registered customers and customers with a non-standard filing date for income tax. These customers will be prompted to set up 2SV the next time they log in to myIR, if they haven’t done so already.
We are in the process of making 2SV compulsory for all myIR users by 5 October 2025. This change is planned to take effect on various dates for different customer groups to allow us to support customers with the change.
Here’s our planned rollout schedule so you know what’s coming:
- 28 July 2025 –Individual customers who file IR3 returns and customers who pay provisional tax
- 25 August 2025 –Individual customers who are registered for any of the following: paid parental leave, Working for Families Tax Credits, child support and FamilyBoost
- 5 October 2025 –All remaining customers.
On 14 July 2025 we are turning on prompts for all myIR users to set up 2SV in myIR. This is to encourage customers to set it up before 2SV becomes compulsory for them. The prompt will display the next time the customer logs into myIR. If 2SV is not compulsory for them yet, they can choose to skip this screen by clicking the link “Don’t use two-step verification” at the bottom of the page.
Set up two-step verification for myIR.
myIR passkey change
Customers logging in to myIR with a passkey are no longer required to enter a 2SV security code to verify their identity.
